Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, Zaka Ashraf called for an emergency meeting on Sunday (August 27th) evening during which Lahore High Court is likely to pass its order. Zaka Ashraf is likely to discuss the current turmoil at the meeting which can force him to lose his top post.
Zaka Ashraf has held the top post of the PCB since June 2023, when the previous government held elections, now has moved to the Lahore High Court to consider a stay order against any Pakistani government that will try to remove him from the post.
According to a report by PTI, the Pakistan Cricket Board still has not made any official communication regarding the election however sources inside PCB said that CMC members have already been told about the meeting.
The PCB has already assured the court that they would submit an election schedule for the top post and interestingly the meeting was held in Karachi just one day before the High Court of Lahore issued an order.
The problem now is that CMC members will form a Board of Governors on Sunday (August 27th) which will be submitted to the Ministry of Sports in Pakistan and to the Election Commissioner. Later, the Pakistani Prime Minister will pick two members from which the Board of Governors will vote and elect the Chief of the PCB.
While talking to the press, former chairman Khalid Mahmood said that there are too many problems that need to be taken care of before the Board of Governors is selected.
“I don’t understand what this set-up is doing because even if a BOG is announced on Sunday to tell the court legally there are so many lacunas still to be resolved,” former chairman Khalid Mahmood said.
Why Zaka Ashraf finds himself in a difficult position?
The current PCB chief, Zaka Ashraf finds himself in a tough place he is likely to be the third PCB chief since December who will be removed by the board of members. Earlier, Najam Sethi held the post of the PCB chief.
Amidst the ongoing turmoil in the PCB, Pakistan will be hosting the Asia Cup 2023 along with Sri Lanka. The most awaited match of the tournament between Rohit Sharma-led India and Babar Azam’s Pakistan will be played on Saturday (September 2nd) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka.
