Suryakumar Yadav is set to return to action and lead Team India in the Asia Cup 2025 after recovering from a hernia surgery that sidelined him for the past few months. The T20I captain has resumed training for the first time at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru since his hernia surgery in June.
Suryakumar recently underwent surgery in Munich, Germany, for a sports hernia. Notably, it was his second surgery in two years, with the previous one in 2024 following an ankle injury sustained during India’s white-ball tour of South Africa. He is expected to return for India’s next white-ball assignment.

SKY is on track to lead India in the Asia Cup 2025, which will be played in the T20 format from September 9 to 28 in the UAE. India, the defending champions from the previous 50-over edition held in Sri Lanka, will begin their campaign against the hosts on September 10.
Suryakumar, who is currently recovering from hernia surgery, has resumed training at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. His rehabilitation is being closely monitored, and he is expected to be fully fit well ahead of Asia Cup 2025.

The middle-order batter took over captaincy after Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is following the 2024 World Cup triumph. With over a month to go, Suryakumar's presence in the nets has eased concerns among fans about his participation in the upcoming continental event.
Suryakumar Yadav Enjoyed Stellar T20 Form During IPL 2025 Season
Suryakumar Yadav has been in fine form in T20s. He scored 717 runs in 16 IPL 2025 matches at an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.91, with 69 fours and 38 sixes. It was the most by a non-opener in IPL history and the highest ever by a Mumbai Indians batter in a single season.
The batter also recorded 16 consecutive scores of 25 or more in the last season. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament.
The 34-year-old has played 83 T20I matches, scoring 2,598 runs at a strike rate of 167.07 and an average of 38.20, with four centuries and 21 fifties. He is one of the most consistent performers in the shortest format of international cricket.
Suryakumar Yadav Missed Out on West Zone's Duleep Trophy Squad
Suryakumar Yadav was not included in West Zone's Duleep Trophy squad as he is still undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. Shardul Thakur will lead a strong West Zone side featuring the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sarfaraz Khan.
As India's T20I captain, Suryakumar has brought a bold, attacking approach to the team’s batting. The Men in Blue have recorded several 200+ scores, including a record 297 against Bangladesh - the second-highest total in T20I history.
India have won 18 of the 22 T20Is under Surya, the fourth-highest tally for an Indian skipper. His winning percentage is the best among Indian captains with 20 or more T20Is. He has yet to lose back-to-back games.
