The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) finds itself in a tough spot while the fate of the Asia Cup 2025 hangs in the balance. India have the hosting rights for the continental championship this year.
However, the fate of the tournament remains highly uncertain at present due to the recent border tension between India and Pakistan.
Fans are against any cricketing ties
There has been a widespread call to boycott Pakistan all all levels. India have not played any bilateral series against Pakistan since the 2012/13 season. Since then, both teams have only played against each other in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup.
However, there have been calls from several quarters to boycott Pakistan even in the Asian and ICC tournaments in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. Many have even urged the BCCI to completely pull out of the tournament.

BCCI under immense pressure to participate in the Asia Cup 2025
While the national sentiment is to boycott Pakistan completely, the situation is not quite straightforward for the BCCI.
According to Sports Tak, the Indian cricket board is in a tight corner due to the entire episode. While the public wants the BCCI to boycott Pakistan, the broadcasters and sponsors have a different stance.
The India-Pakistan clash has been the most important fixture of the Cup for quite some time now. The fixture is arguably the biggest revenue generator in the game, and the broadcasters will have to bear a huge loss if the match does not take place.
As a result, the broadcasters and the sponsors are pressuring the BCCI to ensure India not only plays the Asia Cup but also plays against Pakistan.
The news outlet further stated that the BCCI is yet to take a final call on the issue and will follow the government's order.
BCCI has been following the government's directive over playing against Pakistan and is likely to have the same stance for the upcoming Asia Cup as well.
ACC meeting shifted from Dhaka
Meanwhile, the venue for the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is likely to be shifted from Dhaka after the BCCI expressed its reservations over the same.
The board recently postponed India's tour of Bangladesh and also urged the ACC to shift the venue for the meeting due to the existing political scenario in the country.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on July 24, and a final decision on the Asia Cup 2025 is likely to take place during the event.
