PC: X

Asia Cup 2025, which has seen several doubts imposed over its probable hosting, is now expected to get a closure after the Asian Cricket Council has reportedly convinced every board to be a part of the Annual General Meeting in Dhaka.

The Asian Cricket Council consists of every member nation from Asia and is responsible for supervising any intercontinental championship. The continental body is currently headed by Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi.

ACC meets once a year to discuss several aspects, and the ACC had scheduled it to be held in Dhaka this time around. However, several boards, with BCCI being the torchbearer, denied travelling to the country amid its political unrest.

With India being the official host for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, they needed to make it to the AGM; however, their repeated pleas to change the venue were overlooked by the ACC.

ACC to proceed with AGM in Dhaka before Asia Cup 2025

The Asian Cricket Council meeting, which was scheduled in Dhaka for the 24th and 25th of July, has been taken forward by the ACC after resolving the issues with various Test-playing member cricket boards.

The ACC has somehow concluded the dilemma after having convinced the BCCI, Afghanistan Cricket Board, BCB, and the Sri Lanka Cricket Board into some sort of understanding.

However, despite many things being sorted, there remains a huge doubt about BCCI's likely participation in the event, since it is being held in Dhaka. Cricbuzz report claims that some members are likely to join online, and BCCI could be one of them.

Currently, as officials of several nations arrive in the Bangladesh capital, the ACC chief, Mohsin Naqvi, has already arrived alongside PSL CEO Salman Naseer. The AGM is scheduled to begin around 2 PM.

Conclusion to be drawn over doubt on the Asia Cup 2025

The Asia Cup 2025 has been under major doubt. Started long back, the Indian team is the most successful in the multi-team competition, followed by Sri Lanka, which has also done convincingly well.

With the previous Asia Cups held at other venues, the upcoming season was to be hosted by the BCCI. However, if India goes on to host the competition, they will have to arrange for a neutral venue for Pakistan to play their games, while the UAE can be the top choice for such a scenario.

Whether or not the Asia Cup 2025 will be held can be decided after the meeting concludes, as we expect a formal confirmation regarding the same. However, now with every member in the meeting, the Asia Cup is likely to be held with higher chances.

BCB Chief distances himself from controversies ahead of Asia Cup 2025

Meanwhile, BCB interim head Aminul Islam has looked to avoid any further controversies. "The ACC is an organisation that operates with five full members from Asia and 25 associate countries. The ACC asked us whether we wanted to host the AGM, and we agreed to it. This is an ACC programme, and we will only provide logistical support."

The BCB chief further said, "We are in touch with the ACC, who is informing us who is coming and who is not, as we have to make arrangements for airport pick-ups, hotel bookings, and other support."

When asked about whether the ACC meeting without India and Sri Lanka would worsen the relations between the cricket boards, the BCB president replied as mentioned below.

The BCB president insisted it won't affect the relationship. "I don't think so. Hosting the AGM without India and Sri Lanka will not have an impact on our relationship with these countries as far as cricketing ties are concerned. Cricket is above all. We are just the hosts. We have never hosted before, we will try to make it a good AGM."
