India’s pace attack is all set to receive a major boost as Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be part of the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, which will be played from September 9 to 28 in the UAE. Earlier, there were reports that Jasprit Bumrah would miss the upcoming T20I tournament.
Bumrah has been in fine form, taking 14 wickets in the recent five-match Test series against England despite featuring in only three of the five matches. So, having their strike bowler available could be a game-changer for the Men in Blue in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
Jasprit Bumrah set to play Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE
Jasprit Bumrah was rested in two tests as part of his workload management to protect him after a back injury that he picked up during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia.

Meanwhile, there were concerns about Bumrah’s fitness for the upcoming continental tournament. But now a PTI report suggested that Jasprit Bumrah is all set to be available for India in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
However, India may rest Jasprit Bumrah for the first Test against the West Indies, which is set to be played from October 2 to 6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, to manage his workload and keep him fit for the long run.
India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad to be announced on August 19 or 20
Meanwhile, India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 is set to be announced on August 19 or 20, depending on when the BCCI Centre of Excellence’s Sports Science team submits its medical report on all players. They will also provide an update on the T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, who has recently resumed batting practice in the nets at the NCA in Bengaluru.
The Indian selectors are unlikely to make big changes at the top of the batting order. Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya are expected to form the top five, with Shubman Gill likely to join the squad as vice-captain.
A BCCI insider was quoted as saying by PTI, “Abhishek is currently the top-ranked T20 batter in the ICC rankings. Sanju was brilliant with both bat and gloves last season. Shubman had a strong IPL, and his Test form is incredible, but fitting everyone into the top order will be a big challenge.”

KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sai Sudharsan likely to miss out on the Asia Cup 2025 squad
As India’s batting order is almost finalized, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan, both having made strong cases with consistent performances, might still not find a place in the squad. KL Rahul is also unlikely to make the cut in the upcoming tournament.
KL Rahul’s experience is unquestionable, but the Indian cricket team management doesn’t see him fitting into the aggressive, power-hitting style they want in the middle order in T20I cricket. Nitish Kumar Reddy is also unlikely to be picked for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
Well, India’s spin attack is likely to have a familiar look in the UAE. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are almost certain to make the squad, with the third spinner’s spot expected to go to either Kuldeep Yadav or Varun Chakravarthy. The final call will depend on the pitches and conditions in the UAE.
