Veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle has shared his predicted squad for India ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup, scheduled to begin on September 9. Bhogle omitted players like Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, while including Shreyas Iyer, who did not feature in any T20Is for Team India in 2025.

The BCCI will announce India’s 15-member squad for the 2025 Asia Cup on Tuesday, August 19. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, will reveal the squad at a press conference with all main players fit. Suryakumar Yadav, set to captain the side, will fly in from Bengaluru to join the meeting in Mumbai.

"It is virtually impossible to pick an Indian T20 side and have everyone or even the majority agree that it's a good side because there are so many options. It starts with the captain, Suryakumar Yadav, who is an absolute lock-in. Interestingly, almost all the other lock-ins are either bowlers or all-rounders," Bhogle said.

Bhogle picked Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson as openers in the squad. The commentator did not select a backup opener, leaving out players like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Bhogle backed Tilak Varma, who impressed in the format, to play at the No. 3 position.

Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav

Team India in Group A for the 2025 Asia Cup

India are in Group A along with Pakistan, UAE, and Oman. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against the UAE on September 10 before facing Pakistan on September 14. They will conclude the group stage against Oman on September 19.

The tournament will follow the T20 format as preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. India, the reigning champions after their 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in 2023, will host the event.

India were set to play Bangladesh in a white-ball series in August 2025, but it has been postponed to September 2026. They recently played a five-match Test series against England, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
