Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi demanded the cancellation of the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 during the Rajya Sabha session. Her demand came in the wake of the brutal Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 Indians dead and Operation Sindoor.
The Shiv Sena MP strongly questioned how Team India could play a cricket match against a country that continues to provide shelter to terrorists that killed several innocents over the years. She also mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that Operation Sindoor is still ongoing.

Chaturvedi stressed that if the entertainment industry, news channels, or influencers have been banned in India in respect to national sentiment, then why not cricket? She demanded a complete ban on India vs Pakistan matches in any cricket tournament.

Priyanka Chaturvedi said during the Rajya Sabha session: “PM Modi yesterday said Operation Sindoor is still underway. I thank him for reminding the country that what our army did is not over yet—we will end their (Pakistan’s) evil deeds. Since Operation Sindoor is ongoing, whether it’s the film industry, news channels, or influencers, we’ve imposed restrictions on all. Now, it’s time that we extend these restrictions to cricket as well.”
She also urged the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene and instruct the ICC Chairman Jay Shah to take strong action. Notably, the ICC chairman Jay Shah is Amit Shah’s son.

The Shiv Sena MP added, “Our External Affairs Minister said talks were held with nearly 100 countries. I’m telling the Home Minister—there’s no need to make many calls; just pick up the intercom and tell the ICC chairman that an India vs Pakistan match can’t happen. If it doesn’t happen, that will be the real success of Operation Sindoor.”
Meanwhile, Chaturvedi questioned how the country could justify playing cricket with Pakistan after the terror attack in Pahalgam earlier this year. She pointed out the pain of the 26 widows who lost their husbands, saying how can India put money above national pride.

She signed off by saying, “How can we face the 26 widowed women and tell them we want to play a match with Pakistan to earn money? Your family is not above money. An Operation Sindoor should happen in that regard.”

Massive outrage over the India vs Pakistan match
Recently, the schedule for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 was unveiled, and it quickly sparked major outrage across the country. India and Pakistan will face each other on September 14. They are likely to play each other three times in the upcoming T20 tournament.
And many former cricketers and political leaders have slammed the decision, urging India to completely cut off cricket ties with Pakistan. Even the World Championship of Legends 2025 (WCL 2025) saw the group and much-awaited semi-final between India Champions and Pakistan Champions cancelled. It is being said that several Indian players refused to take the field against Pakistan after public outrage on social media in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack.
