The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to take part in the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) Annual General Meeting, which is set to take place in Dhaka on July 24 and 25. Notably, the BCCI had earlier considered boycotting the AGM due to disagreements over the venue selection.

The Asia Cup 2025 is set to be played in the T20 format ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, the tournament’s fate is in doubt due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, especially after the tragic Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor.

BCCI to Attend ACC Meeting Virtually, Rajeev Shukla Named Representative

Earlier, the BCCI had decided to boycott the meeting due to escalating tensions between India and Bangladesh and had even ruled out sending officials to Dhaka. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had also chosen not to send a delegation.

However, the BCCI has confirmed it will attend the meeting virtually, with Rajeev Shukla representing the board. While Sri Lanka’s participation remains unclear, Afghanistan and Oman, who were earlier doubtful, are now expected to be present. Nepal will also join the meeting online.

The fate of the Asia Cup 2025 will be decided at the ACC Annual General Meeting. Notably, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is hosting a high-level ACC meeting for the first time.

Asia Cup 2025 Set to Be a Key Agenda Item at ACC Meeting

The upcoming ACC meeting is set to address the Asia Cup 2025. Notably, the BCCI have the hosting rights for the Asia Cup 2025. However, matches are likely to be played in the UAE this September due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, who are unwilling to play in each other's countries.

There are doubts over whether India will agree to face Pakistan. Following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, public calls have intensified to sever all cricketing ties with Pakistan.

Notably, the India-Pakistan match in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 was cancelled. A backlash on social media led to several Indian legends, including Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Suresh Raina, withdrawing just before the fixture.

The India-Pakistan clash remains a sensitive issue in the Asia Cup. Even if they are placed in separate groups, the structure of the tournament could still lead to a meeting in the Super Four stage or in the final.

We Are Only Assisting Logistically - BCB President Aminul Islam

According to ESPNcricinfo, BCB president Aminul Islam stated that the Bangladesh Cricket Board is only assisting with logistical arrangements for the upcoming ACC Annual General Meeting and is not involved in any decisions regarding the participation of member boards.

"We agreed with the ACC to organise this year's AGM," Aminul said on Tuesday. "It is an ACC programme. We are providing them with logistical support. That's all we are doing. We are in touch with the ACC, who is informing us who is coming and who is not, as we have to make arrangements for airport pick-ups, hotel bookings and other support."
