Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has explained why the Men in Green often struggle against India in the high-pressure games ahead of the much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled on September 14 in Dubai.

Rashid Latif believes that Pakistan frequently lets their emotions take control in tense situations, which leads to poor decision-making and costly mistakes during these big matches with India. But India adapts to pitch conditions and match situations, which gives them a consistent edge over their arch-rivals, as opined by the former Pakistani cricketer.

The two teams are set to clash again in the Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, which will be their first encounter since the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year, which strained relations between the two nations, especially following the military attacks from both sides.

However, the rivalry has been one-sided in recent years, but they have not played a bilateral series in over a decade, facing each other only in ACC or ICC tournaments. India has dominated these encounters, winning 12 of the last 15 matches over the past ten years.

In the most recent encounters, Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 82 in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Melbourne guided India to a thrilling four-wicket win over the Men in Green on the final ball. A year later, in the Asia Cup in Colombo, India completely dominated Pakistan, winning by a massive 228 runs.

We get emotional or hyper: Rashid Latif

Then, in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA, India defended a low total of 119, with Jasprit Bumrah taking three crucial wickets to secure a narrow six-run victory over Pakistan.

Given the history, Latif believes that the long-standing pressure on Pakistan, carried over decades, is a factor India could exploit once again in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 clash on Sunday in Dubai.

Rashid Latif was quoted as saying by The Indian Express: “We get emotional or hyper and try to do everything in one go. We don’t take the games deep against India, and because of this, Pakistan loses most of the time. India, on the other hand, plays according to the pitch and match situation, and that’s why they succeed. There is pressure on Pakistan, which they have been carrying for the last 30 years. So maybe India will try to take advantage of it.”

Rashid Latif highlights India’s T20I rust as a potential advantage for Men in Green

The former Pakistani cricketer also pointed out a potential weakness for India in the upcoming encounter. He noted that the team hasn’t played the format lately, with their last T20I series being the bilateral matches against England in January.

This lack of recent T20I action could affect India’s rhythm and timing in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 clash. Latif signed off by saying, “The only disadvantage in India is that they have not played T20Is. They must be playing warm-up matches or practicing. But they have not played any match. This may be a disadvantage.”
