PTI sources confirm India's Top 5 in the batting order for the Asia Cup 2025, excluding the likes of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, possibly implying no return for the Test cricketers to the T20I team.

After a desired conclusion to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, India will now advance to play the Asia Cup in the shortest format of the game. The Asia Cup is scheduled to be played from the 9th of September, while the finals are scheduled for the 28th of the month.

As per reports from PTI, the Indian selection committee led by former cricketer Ajit Agarkar is likely to announce the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup on the 19th or 20th of this month; that is almost three weeks ahead of the continental championship.

India's Top order confirmed for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025

The Asia Cup squad announcement has engaged the Indian fans, as they have been anticipating the return of Indian Test captain Shubman Gill in the T20I side, especially after his recent impressive performance and strong seasons in the IPL.

The squad might also mark the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, but their availability is a huge concern after a toiling England series and the West Indies Test tour following the Asia Cup immediately.

However, as of now, PTI has revealed that the likes of World No. 1-ranked T20I batter Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, skipper Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and youngster Tilak Varma are likely to retain their place in the squad.

Citing these 5 players, it almost forms the Indian top order, with Samson and Abhishek posing as openers, Tilak as the new no. 3 after his hundreds in South Africa, skipper SKY at no. 4, and all-rounder Pandya at no. 5.

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal return halted?

The anticipated return of Shubman Gill has not only been due to his commanding win in England but also due to three consecutive successful series in the IPL. Shubman Gill has nearly scored 2000 runs in the last three seasons in the IPL, of which Shubman Gill was the captain in the last two.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were both part of the Indian side until they were sidelined to focus on red-ball cricket and were not picked in the playing 11 for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as well. The new T20 pair has been a hit for the Indian team, hence ruling out their possibility for a comeback.

India last featured in the T20I series against England at home, which they won by a commanding 4-1 margin. Likely, Suryakumar Yadav's return further halted Gill's hopes to take over as India's T20I captain in the Asia Cup 2025.

Sai Sudharsan has to wait for his maiden T20I call

India left-handed batting star Sai Sudharsan, who convinced everyone with his dominating form in the IPL 2025, has to wait for his maiden T20 call-up, citing the poor performance in the England Test series.

However, other than the weak performance in England, Sudharsan's wait can also be attributed to the overconvincing form of Tilak Varma, who recently looked promising in the County season and has played very well for India in the shortest format.

Moreover, the opening spots have further tough competitors in the form of the no. 1 ranked T20I batter Abhishek Sharma, a more experienced Sanju Samson, and now likely Shubman Gill also entering the race.
