Team India could play without a sponsor logo on their jerseys during the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, which is set to begin on September 9 in the UAE. The BCCI is awaiting clarity on Dream11’s agreement following the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, in the Indian Parliament.

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill received presidential approval on Friday. There is a complete ban on fantasy sports operators and other real-money gaming platforms from running or advertising in India. Dream11 has shut down its cash-based contests in the country following the new law.

It’s Premature to Comment on What Will Happen - BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia

Dream11 is Team India’s lead sponsor, having signed a ₹358 crore, three-year jersey deal with the BCCI in July 2023. However, the company may no longer be allowed to display its logo on players’ kits if the law takes effect before the Asia Cup.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that it is too early to comment on the situation. He said that the Act will come into effect only after an official notification is issued, and if it happens before the Asia Cup, the board will then decide its next steps.

“It’s premature to comment on what will happen. The legal position is that there will be a notification on which date the Act will come into force. If it happens before the Asia Cup, we will have to take the next course of action,” Saikia told Hindustan Times.

Dream Sports May Retain BCCI Deal Until ICC T20 World Cup 2026

Dream Sports could still continue its agreement with the BCCI, which extends until the 2026 home T20 World Cup. The company owns other ventures, including a luxury sports travel brand, that could step in as a substitute for Dream11.

“Would they want to do that when their primary business has been outlawed is the question,” an industry insider said.

“We should not forget, the main reason companies like Dream11 paid heavily for sponsorship and bought advertising slots was to promote their fantasy business during major cricket tournaments. If that business shuts down, it wouldn’t make sense to spend on advertising costs.” Dream11 did not comment on the matter.

India Faces Sponsorship Uncertainty Ahead of Asia Cup 2025

If Dream11 decides to exit, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is expected to invite new bids for sponsorship. However, the board will find it difficult to secure a replacement on short notice, with the Asia Cup scheduled to begin on September 9.

Some board officials feel it is better to operate without a sponsor temporarily rather than accept a low-profile deal. The previous short-term kit sponsorship with Killer Jeans did not generate much enthusiasm in the market.

Meanwhile, the BCCI’s ₹625 crore IPL deal with My11Circle runs until 2028, giving the board sufficient time to explore potential replacements for the league if needed.
