Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has made a prediction on the finalists of the Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai on Sunday, September 28. Farhan stated that Pakistan could face India in the summit clash despite losing two matches against their arch-rivals in the eight-team tournament.
India have defeated Pakistan twice in the Asia Cup 2025 so far. The Suryakumar Yadav-led team first won in the group stage on September 14 and then again in the Super 4 clash on September 21. However, Pakistan showed progress in the second encounter, with Sahibzada Farhan top-scoring with 58 runs.
Hoping For a Rematch With India in the Final - Sahibzada Farhan
Sahibzada Farhan said that the team is eager to face India in the Asia Cup final. He added that the squad’s immediate focus is on defeating Sri Lanka and described the upcoming match as a must-win contest.
“Our preparation has been excellent,” Farhan said. “All the boys are hoping for a rematch with India in the final. The way we played against them, especially our batting, has given us confidence. We’re focused on beating Sri Lanka — it’s a do-or-die game.”
Pakistan posted 172 against India after Farhan scored a half-century. However, the team struggled in the second half of the innings. The Indian batters chased down the target with ease to secure a convincing victory in the high-stakes clash.
It Wasn't a One-Sided Game - Sahibzada Farhan
Sahibzada Farhan said that the match was competitive and Pakistan fought hard until the end. He noted that the team started strongly in the power play, but their scoring slowed later. The opener added that they need to improve handling pressure.
“It wasn’t a one-sided game. We fought till the end, and it was a competitive match,” Farhan stated. “We had a strong start in the powerplay, no early wickets, good scoring, but later the run rate dropped. We’re working on fixing that.”
“We weren’t using the powerplay well and kept losing early wickets. It’s crucial to handle pressure early, build a foundation, and not give away wickets,” he added.
Pakistan on the Brink of Elimination After Heavy Defeat to India in Asia Cup
Pakistan are on the verge of elimination in the Asia Cup after a heavy defeat to India. They sit at the bottom of the Super Four table with a net run rate of -0.689. Another loss would knock them out of the eight-team tournament.
Sri Lanka are also under pressure after losing to Bangladesh in the Super Four stage. Although they went unbeaten in the group stage, their batting faltered against Bangladesh. However, India’s win over Pakistan has kept Sri Lanka’s qualification hopes alive.
Pakistan have lost five consecutive T20Is to Sri Lanka since October 2019. Notably, Sri Lanka also defeated the Men in Green in the Asia Cup 2022 final, the previous time the tournament was held in the T20I format.
