The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pushing for Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi’s impeachment following the Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy. The silverware was moved into the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), creating uncertainty over when and how it will be formally presented to India.

India defeated Pakistan by five wickets with two balls to spare in the Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai on Sunday, September 28. However, the players were denied the trophy by Naqvi. The Men in Blue staged a mock celebration on the podium. India secured their ninth crown in the history of the Asia Cup.

The report stated that the trophy has been handed to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB). However, it is still unclear when or how it will be presented to India.

"According to NDTV sources, the primary points are being raised by the dissenting BCCI faction, led by officials who recently confronted Naqvi in a virtual ACC meeting. The officials claim that Naqvi's actions directly led to the abuse of office and a disregard for sporting standards," the report read.

Mohsin Naqvi Faces Backlash for Refusing to Hand Over Asia Cup Trophy

Mohsin Naqvi has faced criticism for refusing to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to the winning Indian team, an action that violated protocols and his duties as ACC chief.

The report added that the trophy and medals were taken to his hotel in Dubai after he walked out of the presentation, an act described as a display of personal or political petulance. It has been labeled a conflict of interest and a breach of fair conduct expected of a continental cricket administrator.

Naqvi has been accused of mixing politics with sport, allowing personal or political motives to influence his role. His actions have tarnished the reputation of both the ACC and ICC, raising concerns about the precedent set for future cricketing events.

BCCI Confronts Mohsin Naqvi Over Asia Cup 2025 Trophy

During a virtual ACC meeting on Tuesday, BCCI officials Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar directly confronted Mohsin Naqvi. They told him clearly that the Asia Cup 2025 trophy belongs to the winning Indian team and not to any individual.

The BCCI also asked Naqvi to officially congratulate the unbeaten Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav, but he refused to do so. While the ACC has reportedly expressed “regret” over what happened, Naqvi has still not given a formal apology for his actions.

The BCCI has made it clear that they plan to take the issue to the ICC. They intend to raise the matter at the upcoming ICC meeting in November.
