Asian Games 2023: Sri Lanka Announce Men's And Women's Squads For Continental Event

Sri Lanka, on Monday (September 18), announced their men’s and women’s squads for the upcoming Asian Games 2023. Cricket will be played in the sporting event in the T20 format. The upcoming edition of the Asian Games will also mark the return of cricket to the games since 2014.

The competition is scheduled to be held in China’s Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8. In the men’s event, a total of 15 cricket teams will be taking part. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 27. The bronze and gold medal matches will be played on October 7.

The four top-seeded teams – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh – will start their respective campaigns from the quarterfinal stage. On the other hand, the remaining 11 teams will start from the group stage. The four group winners will join the top-seeded teams in the quarterfinal.

On the other hand, the women’s tournament will see eight teams fighting it out in the Asian Games. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh will start their campaigns from the quarterfinals. The remaining four teams have been divided into two groups. The quarterfinal schedule will be set after a qualifying event. All the cricket matches, both men’s and women’s, will be played at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field.

Sri Lanka squad for Asian Games 2023:

Sri Lanka Cricket have named an ‘A’ team for the men’s squad and a full-strength side for the women’s event. Sahan Arachchige will lead the Men’s side while Chamari Athapaththu will be in charge of the women’s event.

In the men’s event, Sri Lanka will open their campaign on October 4 when they take on the qualifier in the third quarterfinal. In the women’s event, Sri Lanka will start their campaign on September 22.
