Former South Africa keeper-batter Mark Boucher, who is a former Mumbai Indians head coach as well, made an interesting comment when he was asked to predict Rohit Sharma’s future with the Mumbai Indians (MI).

It was basically a rapid-fire round video, where Mark had to say either retain or release as soon as the player’s name popped up. The videos shared by ESPNCricinfo start with Rohit Sharma, whose price tag is INR 16.3 crore. The former Protea cricketer mentioned ‘retain’ but also said that Rohit’s opinion will be vital.

Former head coach makes a significant comment on Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma. Now 39, he is one of the most successful captains in the Indian Premier League, with 5 titles under his belt. But, in the recent past, there were a lot of rumors around the opener’s future in the franchise.

Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, there were claims that Rohit Sharma could consider making a switch. Despite the speculations, he continued with the Mumbai-based franchise in the IPL 2026 campaign.

“Retain, and ask him where he would like to go,” this is what Mark Boucher suddenly said in the video. Why did he say that? As of now, this is not clear yet.

Mumbai Indians and Rohit had a below par run in IPL 2026

Rohit Sharma’s own performance is also not like the prime ‘Hitman’. The experienced opener, who missed multiple matches because of an injury, scored 283 runs in 9 matches for an average of 35.37 and a strike rate of 157.22.
