Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has opined that the conditions in England would be batting-friendly in August. Mohammad Azharuddin’s comments came ahead of the five-match Test series between England and India, starting on the 4th of August in Nottingham. Several experts have reckoned this to be India’s best chance of a series victory on the English shores.

The Indian team would be keen to begin and finish their second leg of the England tour on a high. The tourists squandered an opportunity to win the ICC World Test Championship against New Zealand in Southampton. India’s poor performance with the bat on the reserve day of the decider was one of the significant factors behind their loss.

But despite their humbling eight-wicket defeat, several experts have backed India to beat England in the Test series due to the latter’s poor results. The Three Lions suffered a series loss for the first time at home in seven years in June against New Zealand, who exposed their batting line-up. Furthermore, Ben Stokes’ absence for the entire leg hands them more of an upper hand.

Mohammad Azharuddin took to his official Twitter handle and remarked August is a fantastic month to score runs as the pitches are dry, contributing to favourable batting conditions. Hence, he believes the batsmen should capitalize on it. Meanwhile, Mohammad Azharuddin himself had mastered the conditions, averaging 89.33 in two Tests in England. Nevertheless, for India to win on English soil, the other batsmen need to bat well around captain Virat Kohli. The 32-year old earned the man of the series in the five-Test series in 2018 in England for his 593 runs, albeit a 4-1 series loss.
