Australia star Steve Smith is suffering from vertigo ahead of the crucial World Cup match against Afghanistan. The match is scheduled to take place on Tuesday (November 7) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The star batter has been dealing with vertigo for quite some time now. It is a medical condition characterized by a spinning sensation or dizziness, often accompanied by loss of balance. In 2020, he had revealed that he was battling vertigo after scoring a 62-ball century.

The right-handed batsman had revealed that he was not sure about playing the game but eventually decided to play and scored a series-clinching ton for his side. Australia would be hoping their star batter remains fit for the match against high-flying Afghanistan and replicates his 2020 performance after recovering from a bout of vertigo.

Steve Smith made the revelation about his latest battle with vertigo while talking to the media ahead of the game. According to journalist Bharat Sundaresan, the former Australia captain looked in discomfort and also missed the batting session in the nets with Australia’s first batting group.

“Steve Smith, who looked in quite a bit of discomfort during his press conference, revealed that he’s suffering from vertigo currently & for once he’s not part of the first batting group in the nets. He did sound confident of being good to go tomorrow,” Sundaresan wrote on his X handle.

Steve Smith in the World Cup so far:

Talking about Steve Smith’s performance in the World Cup so far, the Australia star has not really managed to deliver as per his reputation. In 7 games, he has scored 205 runs at a modest average of 29 and a strike-rate of less than 90. He has scored just one half-century so far. With Australia looking set to make it to the semifinals, Steve Smith would be looking to regain his best form.

Australia are currently third in the points table with 2 losses and 5 wins. They began their campaign with 2 losses before winning 5 in a row. While their place in the semifinal is still not confirmed, they look destined to qualify as they eye a record-extending sixth title.
