The ongoing five-match Ashes series between England and Australia has taken a turn for the worse. What started as one of the most competitive Test series in recent years is on the verge of turning into one of the ugliest too in the wake of Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal during the second Test at Lord’s last week.

Bairstow’s contentious dismissal has enraged the English cricket fraternity and they have not shied away from making their feelings clear. Australian players have been heavily criticized in the wake of the incident and it looks like things are only going to get worse in the coming days.

Both the teams will be in action next on Thursday (July 6) when the third Test gets underway at Headingley. Pat Cummins and his teammates are likely to receive a hostile reception at Headingley. They were jeered and booed at Lord’s and the crowd is only going to give them more stick in the upcoming third Test.

Australia players asked for more security:

While Australia has maintained its stance on Bairstow’s dismissal, the players are seemingly well aware of the reception they are going to receive in the remainder of the series. And to make sure that their families do not get hurt or come in the firing line, the Australian players have requested more security, according to a report in The Australian.

The report claimed that Australia star Steve Smith’s mother had to leave the stadium early “to escape taunting fans who did not know her connection to him but recognized her nationality.” One of the staff member’s 11-year-old son was also left in tears by the English fans.

“The Australian cricket side has requested extra security be provided for families after abusive fans left one staff member’s 11-year-old son in tears and forced one player’s mother to leave the Lord’s Ashes Test on the fifth day,” the report said.

On the final day of the Test, the Australian players were also shockingly booed and jeered by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members inside the famous Long Room. Later, three MCC members were suspended for allegedly abusing the players.
