Australia batter David Warner surpassed the likes of legendary English cricketer Jack Hobbs and former Indian opener Virender Sehwag in an elite list. The southpaw surpassed them in the list of the batters involved in most 100-run opening partnerships in Tests as became part of the 25th-century stand.

David Warner achieved the feat in the ongoing fifth Test of the Ashes 2023 at The Oval in London. After being set the target of 384 runs to chase, he along with Usman Khawaja gave a rollicking start to the team and made sure that they stay in the game even while chasing the highest target at The Oval.

David Warner, who has been struggling to get going in the ongoing Ashes 2023, hit a blistering half-century and stitched 135 runs partnership with Usman Khawaja (69*) before rain played the spoilsport and abandoned the fair amount of the play on the penultimate day of the last match of what has been an enthralling series.

David Warner struck his second half-century of the tour and has looked settled for the first time in the Ashes 2023. He was batting at 58 runs off 99 balls with the help of 9 boundaries. With the way he’s batting he will be hoping to convert his start into the big knock.

Notably, the unbeaten 135 runs partnership between David Warner and Usman Khawaja is the first-century partnership for the opening wicket in the Ashes since the 122-run stand between David Warner and Cameron Bancroft in Melbourne in 2017/18. Also, the last century opening partnership in the Ashes, not involving Warner, was between Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss, who added 159 in Melbourne in 2010/11.
