Former Australian skipper Mark Taylor has recently observed a downward spiral in Alex Carey’s batting form. He said that his batting might have been impacted since he dismissed Jonny Bairstow controversially at Lord’s in the second Test.

Carey scored 10 off 23 balls in the first innings at The Oval. He started the Ashes series with a fifty but has lost his form since then. He scored 13 runs in the third Test and 30 runs across the next two innings at Old Trafford and The Oval.

The Australian wicketkeeper was greeted by boos from the England fans in the third Test at Headingley, Carey dislodged the stumps at the batter’s end with Bairstow being out of his crease. The England wicketkeeper was given out but his teammates and fans thought he was robbed off his chance to bat.

Meanwhile, Mark Taylor spoke to Channel 9 saying that Careey has lost his batting form either due to fatigue or due to the backlash he received since Bairstow’s dismissal.

This Incident Might Have Impacted Alex Carey’s Batting: Mark Taylor

“His batting certainly has fallen away a bit throughout the series. Whether that’s fatigue or not, you can’t help but think it might have started with this incident. It’s his first Ashes Tour in England and the crowd have been giving it to him. There was quite a bit after the incident. Every time he goes out to bat or keep now, he gets booed” said Mark Taylor.

“You won’t meet a nicer guy playing cricket in Australia at the moment than Alex Carey. I can’t help but think that might have impacted his performance over the last couple of Test matches” he further added.

Carey walked out to bat on day two with Australia being 151/5 after Mitchell Marsh’s dismissal. He scored 10 off 23 balls before he was dismissed by Joe Root who got him caught at covers off Ben Stokes. The left-hander’s sweetly timed shot found Stokes on its way much to his disbelief. Australia ended their first innings on 295 gatting a 12-run lead.
