Former England cricketer Nasser Hussian talked about the team’s decision to include James Anderson in the ongoing fourth Test of the Ashes 2023 at Old Trafford in Manchester. He said that the pacer doesn’t lose his legendary status after just poor games.
Coming into the ongoing 4th Test against Australia at Manchester, England made one change to the team. They brought in veteran James Anderson to the team in place of Ollie Robinson. The pacer notably was rested for the third game at Headingley.
It’s fair to say that James Anderson didn’t look at his best in the first two games as he struggled with this rhythm and failed to make an impact for the team in the two games, in which England lost. The pacer bowled poor lines and lengths in two games and he himself admitted that he wasn’t at his best.
James Anderson has picked wickets of Alex Carey in the series so far and failed to pick wickets Lord’s. In the ongoing match at Manchester, he hasn’t taken a wicket yet but has bowled decently, testing the Australian batters with his impeccable lines and lengths.
Nasser Hussain said that it’s great that James Anderson is playing at his home ground, where conditions are perfect for him. Speaking about the decision, he told Sky Sports:
“I am really pleased England brought Anderson back. He has bowled on two featherbeds and he is a legend. You don’t lose legendary status in two games. He is playing on his home ground, from that far end, the breeze is perfect for his out-swinger. You have got Broad’s contest with Warner, then the local legend at the other end.”

Nasser Hussain further went on to say that experience of Chris Woakes and the pace of Mark Wood will set the tone for England in the 4th game. He elaborated:
“The experience of Woakes then the pace of Wood. The bowlers will set the tone and the catchers need to take their catches, which they haven’t done in the series.”
