Three Months Ago, James Anderson Was No.1 Bowler In The World: Nasser Hussain

During a conversation on Sky Sports, cricketer-turned-commentator Nasser Hussain was asked whether it was time for James Anderson to retire from Tests. The 55-year-old noted that James Anderson was the no.1 ICC bowler three months ago.

“I think we send some of our cricketers into retirement too soon. Three months ago Anderson was the No 1 bowler in the world and he is unbelievably good. We should keep hold of him as long as we can,” said Hussain, who captained England from 199 to 2003.

Nasser Hussain also praised Mark Wood for his outstanding performance in the series. Hussain said that Mark Wood helped England when they were at their lowest point in the series. Pacer Mark Wood scalped 7 wickets in ENG vs AUS 3rd Test to win the man of the match award.

“Heart and character are important. When England were at their lowest point, 2-0 down, you could not think of a better man to come in than (Mark) Wood. I had someone like that in Darren Gough and I think Wood is exactly the same,” Hussain said.

Anderson was part of the first two Tests. However, the right-arm pacer was able to get just 3 wickets across 2 games. Later, he was dropped from the 3rd Test and replaced by Mark Wood. The latter came up with a brilliant bowling show in the match.

Earlier, Australia piled up 317-10 in 1st innings. In reply, the home team came up with a gigantic total of 592-10 in 1st innings. With a 275-run lead after 1st innings, Ben Stokes and Co. have totally dominated the Pat Cummins-led side in the match.

Meanwhile, Australia leads the five-match Ashes 2023 series 2-1 after three games. Australia won the 1st Test by 2 wickets and the 2nd Test by 43 runs. Later, England made a comeback in the series by winning the 3rd Test by 3 wickets.
