AUS vs ENG: Michael Vaughan Feels England Will Win Ashes 2023 If They Win Manchester Test

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan feels that England will win Ashes 2023 if they win the ongoing 4th Test in Manchester. Michael Vaughan feels that if England win the Manchester Test, Australia will be gone in terms of energy in the final Test.

England vs Australia 4th Test at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester has entered an interesting mode. Australia trail by 61 runs in 2nd innings on day 5. With 214-5 on the board, Australia need to save their five wickets on the final day to evade defeat. Otherwise, they are highly likely to lose the game.

England Will Win Ashes 2023 If They Win Manchester Test: Michael Vaughan

While speaking on BBC’s Test Match Special, cricketer-turned-commentator Michael Vaughan said that if England win at Manchester, they will win at The Oval as well.

“If England win (In Manchester) they’ll win at The Oval, whatever team Australia pick. Australia will be totally gone in terms of energy. If Australia get away with it – and they’ll need some weather to help – then the momentum and energy will be back in Australia’s legs,” Vaughan said.

However, Vaughan also feels that if England fail to win the 4th Test at Manchester, they will still execute a good effort to win the final game.

“I look at the mentality of the England dressing room and will they really be itching to put on their best performance when all they can do is draw the Ashes? They should and they will and they’ll give it a good effort but sometimes subconsciously you just drop off because you can’t win the series,” Vaughan further said.

Australia lead the Ashes 2023 series 2-1. They won the 1st Test by 2 wickets and the 2nd Test by 43 runs. Later, England won the 3rd Test by 3 wickets. They need to win the 4th Test in Manchester to remain active for victory in the series.

In the ongoing 5th Test, England bowled out Australia for 317 in 1st innings. Later, the hosts smacked 592, taking a 275-run lead. In the second innings, Australia have reached 214/5 and trail by 61 runs.

Meanwhile, the 5th Test between England and Australia will commence on July 27 (Thursday). The venue of the final Ashes 2023 encounter is Kennington Oval in London.
