England batter Ollie Pope talked about his annoying injury which he faced during the second Test of the Ashes 2023. He said that he was on heavy painkillers and it was hard for him to play a pull or cut shot.

Ollie Pope, who played a vital role for England in the first two Tests, was ruled out of the series after the injury he faced. The batter dislocated his shoulder during the Lord’s Test and was deemed unfit for the upcoming three games of the series.

After the game, Ollie Pope went for the scans and it was revealed that he’ll be needing surgery. The right-hander was then referred to England and Surrey medical teams for rehabilitation.

Ollie Robinson revealed that his shoulder was sore and with the painkillers he took he was falling asleep. He revealed that he didn’t want to continue batting because of the fear of Australian bowlers, which could’ve worsened his injury more. Speaking to Telegraph, he said:

“It was sore, I was on heavy painkillers. I was falling asleep waiting to bat because the painkillers were so strong. That was kind of annoying. Once I got into the innings it was OK.

“There were shots which jarred it. I didn’t want to carry on on the pitch because you know what the Aussies are like, I didn’t want to have a target on my back.”

Ashes 2023: “I didn’t have any shots above my shoulder,” says Ollie Pope

Ollie Pope further went on to say that he didn’t have any shots above his shoulder and he was scared of short balls because it could’ve hurt him. He explained:

“I knew I couldn’t play a pull or cut shot. I got a good ball but would like to think I keep it out normally. The lack of movement I had in the second innings, I was probably sweating on the short ball every ball, because I knew I would have to let it hit me, or try to get out the way because I didn’t have any shots above my shoulder.”

Ollie Pope played a decent role in both games. At Edgbaston, he scored 45 runs and at Lord’s his tally was similar. He played vital knocks for the team and it’ll be a headache for the team now to get a batter in his place. This was evident in the third game as they tried two different batters at that position.
