Pakistan, on Wednesday (December 13), announced their playing eleven for the first Test against Australia. The first game of the three-test series is scheduled to get underway on Thursday (December 14) in Perth.

The series will mark a new beginning for Pakistan as they will be playing under new captain Shan Masood for the first time. Masood was given the charge of the Test team last month after Babar Azam stepped down as captain in all three formats following his team’s poor performance in the World Cup.

Masood has made a promising start to his maiden tour of Australia as a captain. In the four-day warm-up game against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra, he scored an unbeaten double-century to help his team score 391 for 9 (declared). The bowlers, however, failed to make an impact as the home side posted 367 for 4 before the final day of the game was washed out.

Pakistan’s Playing XI for the first Test against Australia:

Pakistan have named two uncapped players – Aamir Jamal and Khurram Shahzad – in their playing XI for the first Test. The visitors have also decided against naming a frontline spinner in the team. Shaheen Afridi will lead the pace attack with Faheem Ashraf, Jamal, and Shahzad.

There were no surprises in the batting order. Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq will open the innings and will be followed by Masood and Babar Azam. At number five, Saud Shakeel will bat and will be followed by former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and Salman Ali Agha.
