Australian opener David Warner retired from Test cricket after the third and final Test match against Pakistan in Sydney. Australia won the match by 8 wickets and in the process completed a clean sweep.

David Warner scored 299 runs in the series and ended his Test career with 8786 runs from 112 Tets matches at an average of 44.6. He also announced his retirement from ODI cricket earlier this week as well.

Cricket Australia and the selectors will now be busy with seeking for an able successor of Warner for open the batting with Usman Khawaja. Warner opened with almost 10 different openers in his Test career. He had his best partnership with Usman Khawaja.

The likes of Marus Harris, Cameron Bancroft, and even Steve Smith are being considered as openers for Australia in the next chapter of Australian Test cricket without David Warner.

Meanwhile, former Australian cricketer Damien Martyn’s tweet after David Warner’s retirement has gone viral. In a shocking tweet, Martin wrote “#thakgoditsallover” just a few hours after the end of the third Test match between Australia and Pakistan.

Damien Martyn’s Cryptic Tweet On David Warner’s Test Retirement

Here’s How Fans Reacted To His Post:

Meanwhile, David Warner was all emotional after his retirement from Test cricket. While returning back to the pavilion on the score of 57, Warner almost had tears in his eyes. He lost his “Baggy Green Cap” on the first day of the Test match and requested his fans to help him in getting that back. Warner penned an emotional message on his Instagram handle after he found back his test cap. He was relieved more than anything else.

“Hi everyone, I am very pleased and relieved to let you all know that my baggy greens have been found, which is great news. Thanks to all involved and I am extremely grateful. Qantas, the freight company, our hotels and team management. Thank you” said Warner.

Warner’s Australian teammates praised him for completing a successful Test career for Australia. He ended his career with 26 hundreds the most after Steve Smith from the current team. Pat Cummins was the first of all to speak about Warner’s career as a Test cricketer.

“It’s going to be hard to replace Davey, he’s basically played every game for the last dozen years, he’s a huge personality; he really sets the game up with the way he plays every time he walks out. He’s going to be huge to replace. We’ll enjoy him for the next day or so while we’ve still got him around,” Cummins was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith seems to be the likely successor of Warner who might open the batting in Test cricket. Smith who is one of the modern greats in Test cricket has batted at number four for Australia all his life. He has never opened in Test cricket for Australia.

“I’m actually happy to go up the top,”. I’m pretty keen if that’s what they want to do. I’m sure the selectors and Ron [Andrew McDonald] and Patty [Cummins] will have a chat after this game but yeah, I’m certainly interested for sure” Smith said on replacing Warner.
