Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh continues to shine in the ongoing three-match Test series against Pakistan at home. Mitchell Marsh had Shan Masood caught off on a no-ball before dismissing the Pakistan captain a few balls later on Day 1 of the New Year’s Test.

The Shan Masood-led team chose to bat after winning the toss at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Wednesday, January 3. However, the decision backfired as the Men in Green encountered early setbacks, collapsing to 4-2 in just the second over of the contest.

Abdullah Shafique and debutant Saim Ayub were dismissed for ducks by Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, respectively. Babar Azam exhibited his class with elegant cover drives but fell victim to Australia’s captain, marking his third dismissal by Pat Cummins in the series.

Babar Azam added 26 runs to the scoreboard before being dismissed by Pat Cummins. Saud Shakeel, who has been struggling in the current series, was caught behind off Cummins after scoring five runs. Pakistan lost their four wickets with only 47 runs on the board.

Shan Masood and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan offered stability to the Pakistan innings with a resilient partnership after the early setbacks. However, Mitchell Marsh bowled brilliantly, leading to Masood’s dismissal at second slip for 32 in the 26th over.

Marsh’s celebration was short-lived, as the umpire signaled a no-ball. The Australian pacer induced away movement after pitching on the off-stump. The southpaw tentatively pushed at the ball, resulting in an outside edge that was safely caught by Steve Smith.

Marsh delivered another brilliant delivery, inducing an outside edge from the left-handed batter. In the 30th over of Pakistan’s innings in the second session, the all-rounder dismissed the Pakistan skipper, and Steve Smith once again completed the catch at the second slip.

Following the successful dismissal, Marsh playfully glanced back at the umpire, ensuring there was no overstepping error this time. the bowler started his celebratory gestures after the clean delivery, which was confirmed by the onfield umpire.

Mohammad Rizwan Fails To Complete Century In Sydney

Masood’s departure came after scoring 35 runs off 70 deliveries, featuring three boundaries. Masood and Mohammad Rizwan added a 49-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The visiting team collapsed to 96/5 inside 30 overs on the opening day of the third Test match.

Rizwan showcased an impressive performance, scoring 88 runs off 103 balls with 10 fours and two sixes. However, his innings was cut short by Pat Cummins with a well-directed short ball. Rizwan fell short of converting his half-century into a three-figure mark.
