South Africa National Cricket Team captain Temba Bavuma was delighted with the performance of his team after the victory over the Australia National Cricket Team and he was especially impressed with the innings played by the wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock.

South Africa lost the toss and were invited to bat first in the 10th match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Thursday, October 12.

After being invited to bat first in the match Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma provided their side with a brilliant start. Although Bavuma got out for 35, De Kock made the most of his start and smashed his second consecutive ton of the ICC World Cup 2023. He smashed 109 runs off 106 balls, with 8 fours and 5 sixes, and played a vital role in South Africa scoring 311 for 7.

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, Temba Bavuma said that they posted an above-par score and lauded Quinton de Kock for his sensational innings. He said:

“I do think 311 was a couple over par, probably 290-300 was par. I guess I’m glad we lost the toss because we wanted to chase as well. I was scratchy with the bat, found it hard but Quinton (de Kock) needs to be given credit for the way he played.”

I think I’d be really greedy if I said there are things we can improve – Temba Bavuma

Temba Bavuma felt that they dominated in all three departments and played an absolutely perfect game against Australia. Temba Bavuma said:

“I think I’d be really greedy if I said there are things we can improve. It was almost the perfect game. The bowlers bowled really well, they have been under some slap but looking at all the phases, I think the guys really dominated. I’ll take that as our second game.”

Temba Bavuma also gave special mention to Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada for their brilliant bowling show. The South Africa captain Temba Bavuma said:

Need to acknowledge the batting effort, the bowling effort was all about being clinical. Lungi (Ngidi) taking the new ball and KG (Rabada) showing intensity is what we’re looking for. In our team, character is the biggest thing we’ve spoken about. You can’t overlook the good work we’ve done, let’s take the confidence and learnings. Let’s celebrate it and come back for the next one.”

South Africa bundled out Australia for 177 in 40.5 overs to register a dominant 134-run win. They have now won 9 of their last 11 ODIs against Australia.
