Ahead of the must-win clash against Sri Lanka, Australia captain Pat Cummins has stated that he and his teammates are desperate to turn their campaign around.

Australia’s chance of progressing ahead of the league stage in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is hanging by a thread after they began their campaign with two defeats. The five-time world champions suffered a six-wicket defeat against hosts India in their World Cup opener. It was followed by a crushing 134-run defeat at the hands of South Africa.

They are now one of the only three teams in the ten-team competition who have yet to open their account. Their opponent for the next game is Sri Lanka who are yet to open their account either. Sri Lanka came up with a couple of fine batting performances in their first two games but failed to end up on the winning side.

Pat Cummins reveals mood in Aussie camp:

Ahead of the crucial game against Sri Lanka, Australia captain Pat Cummins has revealed that the mood in the camp was ‘flat’ after the losses. He further stated that the players are now ready to make amends for the two losses and turn the campaign around.

“Everyone is after the last game was a little bit flat, but the last couple of days have been really good. Everyone has rolled up their sleeves and want to try and get to work and make amends. So, the mood in the camp has been fantastic. Everyone’s great. Everyone’s desperate to turn it around,” said Pat Cummins.

Speaking further, Pat Cummins pointed out that India and South Africa were the only teams to beat them at the World Cup in 2019. Australia had gone on to qualify for the semifinal before losing to eventual winners England. With two of their toughest opponents behind them, Pat Cummins believes that his team is ready to take on the other teams.

“Looking back at 2019, India and South Africa were the two teams that we lost to in the round games there. I think in the last year, they’re kind of the two teams that we’ve had the most trouble against. So, the opportunity now is we’ve got some teams we haven’t played for a while that we’ve had a lot of success against,” Cummins said.
