After David Warner’s retirement from Test cricket, Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja are Australia’s new opening pair in the red ball format. The duo came out to bat on Day 1 of the first Test between Australia and West Indies in Adelaide. While Khawaja was unbeaten on 30 runs, Smith was dismissed for 12 runs by debutant West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph.

However, it was a joyous debut Test match for West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph as his favorite batsman became his first prey in international cricket. After dismissing Steve Smith, Joseph got rid of Marnus Labuchagne for 10 runs.

While speaking after the end of Day 1, Shamar Joseph revealed that Steve Smith is his favorite batsman and he also loves the way he plays cricket. Joseph further said that getting out Smith will be a moment he will remember throughout his life. Shamar Joseph added that he would click a photo of him and Smith and hang it in his house.

Shamar Joseph opens up on the feeling of dismissing Steve Smith

Shamar Joseph said, “He’s my favourite player. I really love Steve Smith the way he plays and goes about his cricket. Getting Steve Smith, I’ll remember this for the rest of my life. I’ll take a picture with him and post it in my house.”

“I didn’t miss my run-up. It was just nervousness, bowling to one of the best batsmen in the Australia team. So I just went and cleared my mind, to get the first one right just on top of off stump, which was good for me to do. Getting Steve Smith’s wicket is just amazing for me.”

The Australian team beat Pakistan by 3-0 in the previous Test series they played a few days back. Just like the same, bowling first on Day 1 in Adelaide against West Indies, the deadly Australian pace attack showed its havoc and wrapped up West Indies for 188 runs in their first innings.

Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins were the pick of the bowlers and picked up 4 wickets each. None of the West Indies batsmen could leave any impression and were dismissed cheaply. Kirk McKenzie scored a half-century and played an innings of 50 runs from 94 balls. He hit a total of seven fours throughout his innings.

After being wrapped up for 188 runs, Shamar Joseph drew the first blood for Australia as he got rid of Steve Smith for 12 runs from 26 balls. West Indies didn’t have to wait for another wicket as Marnus Labuschagne for 10 runs.

Australia ended Day 1 with a score of 59/2 in 21 overs with Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green batting on 30 and 6 runs respectively.

Australia have proved to be the number-one side of the world in the last few years. The Aussies defeated India in the final of both the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup 2023. The Australian team defeated Pakistan with utter dominance and it looks like the same will be the result of the Test series against West Indies.
