Former Australian opener David Warner bid farewell to Test and ODI cricket and played his final Test match against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Warner ended his Test career as the fifth-highest run scorer for Australia in the red-ball format. However, apart from being an aggressive batsman, Warner also had a fierce rivalry with former England pacer Stuart Broad.
Stuart Broad has dismissed David Warner 17 times in 31 Test matches which is the most by any bowler to Warner. After Warner played his last Test match, Broad shared a special message for the former left-handed Australian batsman and stated that the battle between the duo was an entertaining one.
Stuart Broad shares heartfelt post for David Warner
Stuart Broad wrote in his Instagram post, “A very entertaining Test Match career David Warner. I loved our battles over the years. Walking off at the Sydney Cricket Ground is a special way to go! Congrats mate.”
Stuart Broad retired from international cricket after the 2023 Ashes series. Broad picked up over 600 wickets and is one of the best pace bowlers in the history of international cricket. Broad has hunted in pair with James Anderson and the duo has more than 1000 Test wickets to their name.

While Stuart Broad was the toughest bowler for David Warner in terms of stats, as per Warner, veteran South African pacer Dale Steyn is the toughest bowler that he has ever faced in his cricket career. Warner revealed the fact while speaking to cric.com.au.
David Warner remembered the Perth Test between Australia and South Africa in 2016 when he and Shaun Marsh had to face an ugly 45-over session. Warner revealed about the conversation he had with Marsh in which he stated that Marsh was having trouble in pulling Dale Steyn.
David Warner said, “Without doubt it’s Dale Steyn. I go back to the WACA (the first Test of the 2016-17 home series against South Africa) when me and Shaun Marsh had to go out for an ugly 45-minute session. Shaun came down to me and said, ‘I can’t pull him so I don’t know how we’re going to go about facing him’. He put me on my backside and I think he broke his shoulder as well that game.”
David Warner wouldn’t have got a better Test farewell than the three-match series against Pakistan. Warner slammed a ton in the first match of the series in Perth whereas he played a 57-run knock in his last Test innings to help Australia clean-sweep the series against Pakistan by 3-0. Australia won the Sydney Test by eight wickets and handed over Pakistan their 17th straight Test loss in Australia.
After retiring from ODI and Test cricket, David Warner will head to playing more T20 leagues around the world whereas he will also spend quality time with his family. Warner will also make his commentary debut and he informed about the same while sharing an Instagram post.
David Warner ended his Test career with 8786 runs from 112 Test matches. Warner has slammed 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries for Australia.
