Australia have put itself in the driver???s seat in the ongoing first AUS vs WI Test against West Indies at the Adelaide Oval. The hosts were well on top at the end of the second day???s play with Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood starring with the bat and ball respectively. West Indies ended day 2 on 73/6 in their second innings, trailing Australia???s first innings total by 22 runs.

Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green started the proceedings with the bat on day two after the home side lost the wickets of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne on day one. Khawaja and Green could add only eight runs to the overnight score of 59 before Shamar Joseph had the latter caught behind for 14 in the second over of the day.

Khawaja and Head did not let West Indies capitalize on the early breakthrough as they steadied the ship and took the score past the 100-run mark. However, just when they were looking good to stitch a big partnership, Justin Greaves struck to end the stand by dismissing Khawaja for 45. 16 runs later, Kemar Roach joined the party and sent back in-form Mitchell Marsh for just 5 to leave the hosts languishing at 129 for 5.

The likes of Alex Carey (15), and Mitchell Marsh (10) could not do much with the bat either but Head stood firm at one end and went on to score a fine century to help his team take the lead. Head scored 119 runs off 134 balls with the help of 12 fours and 3 sixes. Australia were eventually bowled out for 283 to take a 95-run lead. For West Indies, debutant Shamar Joseph starred with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 94 runs.

AUS vs WI: West Indies??? second innings:

Trailing by 95 runs, West Indies made a disastrous start in their second innings with Hazlewood blowing their top order away. The right-arm pacer dismissed Tagenarine Chanderpaul for a duck before sending back captain Kraigg Brathwaite for 1. He then dismissed Alick Athanaze for a duck as well to leave West Indies reeling at 7 for 3.

He picked up those three wickets without conceding a single run. 12 runs later, Hazlewood struck once again to dismiss Kavem Hodge for 3 and put his team firmly in command. Kirk McKenzie (26) and Justin Greaves (24) got the start but failed to capitalize on it as the former was dismissed by Green while the latter was sent back by Nathan Lyon.

Brief scores: West Indies 188 & 73/6 (Kirk McKenzie 26; Josh Hazlewood 4-18) trail Australia 283 (Travis Head 119; Shamar Joseph 5-94) by 22 runs
