Kavem Hodge came up with a bizarre tactic to deal with Nathan Lyon in the second innings of the ongoing second Test between Australia and West Indies at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Facing a spinner who has taken more than 500 wickets in Test cricket is never an easy task but West Indies batsmen have managed to do well against Nathan Lyon. The Australia spin spearhead managed 3 wickets in the first Test before taking 2 in the first innings of the ongoing Test.
And on Saturday (January 27), Kavem Hodge’s unusual tactic just showed how difficult it is to face the right-arm spinner. The right-handed batsman was deceived by the ball’s sharp turn and bounce and decided to deflect it with his abdomen guard.

West Indies’ strong reply:
West Indies have come up with a strong response with the bat in the second innings. While their top-order failed to do well in the first innings, they managed to avoid a similar situation in the second. At the time of writing this report, the visitors were on 108 for 3, with their overall lead extended to 130 runs.
First innings’ half-centurion Kavem Hodge was batting on 8 while Alick Athanaze was unbeaten on 30. Earlier in the game, West Indies scored 311 runs in their first innings. The Caribbean outfit was reeling at 64 for 5 at one stage before half-centuries from Hodge, Joshua Da Silva and Kevin Sinclair helped them recover and post 311.
With the ball, they reduced Australia to 24 for 4 and then 54 for 5 before half-centuries from Usman Khawaja, Alex Carey, and captain Pat Cummins led the hosts’ recovery. On the second day of the Test, Australia surprisingly declared their innings on 289 for 9.
For West Indies, Alzarri Joseph picked up 4 wickets while Kemar Roach claimed 3. Australia are currently leading the two-match series after winning the first Test. The Cummins-led side registered a 10-wicket win in the first Test to take an unassailable lead.
