Australia women and South Africa women were up against each other in the third game of the series on Saturday (10th February). The match between the two teams took place at the North Sydney Oval Stadium in Sydney.

Australia women won the toss and opted to bat first. They didn’t have a great start with the bat as young batter Phoebe Litchfield (5) got out early and the hosts were left at 17/1. After that Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry added 82 runs for the second wicket that brought hosts back.

After Perry (20) got out, Healy (60) got out, and Beth Mooney (82*) held the fort and played a magnificent innings that put South Africa under pressure. She along with Tahlia McGrath (44) added 67 runs together and made sure that Australia got a big total on the board.

Beth Mooney batted till the very end and remained unbeaten, making sure that he capitalized on the start she got. A vital contribution from Annabelle Sutherland (18), and Alana King (17) in the end helped Australia post a total of 277 runs on the board.

For South African women, Masabata Klaas was the pick of the bowlers. She bagged a four-wicket haul and returned with the figures of 4/56. Apart from her, Marizanne Kapp, Eliz-mari Marx, Nadine de Klerk, and Chloe Tryon picked one wicket each and helped the team put the opposition under pressure at regular intervals.

The second innings of the third ODI between Australian women and South African women was marred due to the rain. Weather forced the umpires to curtail the match. The target for the visitors was reduced to 238 runs and the overs were reduced to just 31.

South Africa were off the worst possible start in the chase. They lost skipper Laura Wolvaardt for just 3 runs and if this was not enough,  Anneke Bosch perished for 4. The visitors were left tottering at 29/2 in the chase.

Opener Tanzim Brits and Sune Luus tried to bail the team out of trouble. But they lost their wickets after the starts. While Brits ended with innings of 31 runs, Luus managed 34 runs. Marizanne Kapp bagged a duck and the Proteas women were reduced to 52/4 in no time.

Nadine de Klerk (20) tried to hold the fort but they couldn’t get going. Chloe Tryon (11) also perished early. Australia women bowlers were all over the South Africa bowlers and picked wickets quickly, making sure they asserted their authority completely over the game.

Alana King picked four wickets whereas Kim Garth and Tahlia McGrath bagged three scalps each. Based on their magnificent performance with the ball, the Australia women bundled out South Africa for just 127 runs and won the game by a margin of 110 runs.

Coming to the series, the Australia women clinched the first game by 8 wickets before South Africa made a comeback and won the second game by 84 runs. The hosts then sealed the decider to win the series by the margin of 2-1.
