The Australia National Cricket Team have announced their ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming high-octane home series against the India National Cricket Team.

Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the entirety of the white-ball series against the Men In Blue as he continues his recovery from lumbar bone stress. While the Australian selectors have announced the ODI squad for the three-match series, they have named the T20I squad only for the first two games of the five-match series.

Matt Renshaw called back as Mitchell Starc returns for ODIs

In the absence of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh will continue to lead the ODI squad, which sees the return of Mitchell Starc, who has not played 50-over cricket since last November, due to his workload management.

Star batsman Marnus Labuschagne has been axed from the ODI squad following his horror show with the bat in the last 10 innings, while the Queensland star Matt Renshaw has earned a recall.

Renshaw is in line for an ODI debut after impressing the selection committee with his consistent performances for Australia A. This is not the first time that Matt Renshaw has been picked in the ODI setup, as earlier he was named in the squad for the Pakistan series in 2022, but failed to get a debut cap.

Spin-bowling all-rounder Cooper Connolly remains a part of the ODI setup, while Mitchell Owen is also in line for his ODI debut. Star pace-bowling Cameron Green will also feature in the 50-over games against India, but is not part of the T20I squad.

Nathan Ellis has made his T20I comeback after missing the New Zealand tour, while Sean Abbott has been named in the T20I squad, but not the ODI squad.

Talking about the wicketkeeper-batsmen, Alex Carey will not be available for the series opener against India as he will play the second round of the Sheffield Shield for South Australia, while Josh Inglis has been named in both squads after recovering from a calf strain. Another major development in the T20I squad is the unavailability of Glenn Maxwell, who is down with a wrist injury.

We have named a squad for the ODI series and the first two games of the T20 series - George Bailey

Speaking in an official statement released by Cricket Australia (CA), George Bailey revealed why the selectors have named the T20I squad only for the first two games.

"We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket," chair of selectors George Bailey said.

"The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it's an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead."
