High-flying Australia will be eyeing a series win when they take on Sri Lanka in the second and final Test of the ongoing series. The game is scheduled to be played from Thursday (February 6) at the Galle International Stadium in Galle.
The visitors have taken an unassailable lead in the series by winning the first Test and a draw in the second Test will be enough to power them to their first series victory in Sri Lanka since 2011.
However, Australia will be keen to make the most of their form and win the second Test as well to register a whitewash win in Asia for the first time since the 2-0 victory against Bangladesh way back in 2006.
The Steve Smith-led side thoroughly outplayed Sri Lanka in the series opener. They beat the hosts by an innings and 242 runs to condemn them to their heaviest Test defeat of all time.
With the Aussies now eyeing another victory over Sri Lanka, we are taking a look at the Australia Playing 11 for the second Test.
Australia Playing 11 vs Sri Lanka - 2nd Test, Australia tour of Sri Lanka 2025:
Openers: Usman Khawaja, Travis Head
Usman Khawaja and Travis Head will be the openers in the Australia Playing 11 for the second Test. In tough conditions, the onus was on Khawaja and Head to give the team a good start and they did not disappoint.
Head fired on all cylinders from the start and scored 57 runs off just 40 balls to set the tone for the rest of the innings.
He shared a 92-run stand with Khawaja for the opening wicket. Khawaja, on the other hand, made the most of the start and went on to play a stunning knock of 232 runs while also sharing big century-plus stands with Steve Smith and Josh Inglis.
With form on their side, Khawaja and Head will be eyeing good outings with the bat in the second Test as well.
Middle-order batsmen and allrounders: Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith (c), Josh Inglis, Beau Webster, Alex Carey (wk)
Most of the Aussie middle-order batsmen got runs as well and all of the batsmen are expected to retain their spots in the Australia Playing 11. Marnus Labuschagne got the start but could not convert it into a big score and had to depart for 20.
On the other hand, Steve Smith and debutant Josh Inglis went on to score fine centuries. Smith led the side from the front, playing a fine knock of 141 runs. On the other hand, Inglis scored 102 runs off just 94 balls with the help of 10 fours and a six.
Alex Carey scored an unbeaten 46 while allrounder Beau Webster scored 23. With a pitch favorable for spinners, Webster did not get the chance to bowl in the first Test and will be hoping that he rolls his arms in the upcoming game.
Bowlers: Mitchell Starc, Matthew Kuhnemann, Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy
The Aussies are also expected to retain the bowlers who powered them to the mammoth win in the first Test. One pacer and three frontline spinners are expected to be in Australia Playing 11 for the second Test.
Mitchell Starc will be the only pacer on the side while Matthew Kuhnemann, Nathan Lyon, and Todd Murphy will be the three specialist spinners.
