In a bold statement ahead of the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Glenn Maxwell has stressed that Australia's chances of winning the home series are majorly dependent on how well their batters handle India's formidable spin duo, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

As India is eyeing a hat-trick of Test series wins on Australian soil, Glenn Maxwell highlighted the key role Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will play in shaping the outcomes of the upcoming five-match Test series later this year. Team India have already achieved historic wins in the 2018-19 and 2020-21 tours.

Glenn Maxwell reckons Australia’s success depends on batters' battle with Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

The Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell hailed Indian all-rounders for their exceptional skills that have turned the team into a powerhouse in Test cricket. With their remarkable all-round performances, these spin maestros have consistently challenged opposing teams.

The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which will be the first five-test affair between the cricketing giants India and Australia since the 1991-92 season, will be a high-octane thriller later this year, with both teams eyeing a record triumph to qualify for the WTC Final 2023-25.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will dictate the outcomes of the games: Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell was on Star Sports: “I think that over a long period of time, having played against guys like Ashwin and Jadeja, those two seem to have always been the ones we've faced consistently, and the battles we've had with them have often dictated the outcome of the game.”

The Australian star added, “If we play well against those two (Ashwin, Jadeja), we'll generally find ourselves in a better position compared to when they've had a field day and run through us. Those two guys have been there for most of my career, being of a similar age.”

Glenn Maxwell hails Jasprit Bumrah's remarkable transformation into the world's best bowler

Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell has turned the spotlight on Jasprit Bumrah, hailing the Indian fast bowler's incredible evolution across the formats. Reflecting on his early experiences in the Mumbai Indians (MI) nets back in 2013, Maxwell has shared how he marveled at Bumrah’s transformation from a raw and unrefined talent to a dominating force in the world presently.

Bumrah's journey is nothing short of extraordinary, as he has emerged as one of the best bowlers across all formats with his unique bowling style and fierce competitiveness. His ability to consistently outsmart batters both at home and away has left an indelible mark on the game.

Glenn Maxwell signed off by saying, “And probably, more recently, Jasprit Bumrah. I was there in his first year of the IPL in 2013 in Mumbai and pretty much faced him every day in the nets. To see him evolve from a young, untapped talent to what he is now—the probably best bowler across all three formats—is a pretty amazing story.”

Notably, Ashwin and Jadeja are both currently in great form in the ongoing two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. While Ashwin contributed a ton and a six-wicket haul, Jadeja made 86 runs and scalped five wickets to help India beat Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test in Chennai.
