Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir believes that Australia didn’t showcase their best performance in the semi-final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Gautam Gambhir emphasized that the Australian team remains vulnerable despite the win in the knockout game.

The Pat Cummins-led team registered a thrilling three-wicket victory against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16. The five-time World champions secured a berth in the final after successfully chasing down the target of 213 runs.

Australia Know How To Win Knockout Games – Gautam Gambhir

Speaking to Star Sports after Australia’s semi-final win, Gautam Gambhir emphasized that the Indian team will have to bring their A-game to lift the title in front of the home crowd, as Australia know how to win knockout games.

“Don’t think Australia brought their A-game in the semi-final. Australia are still very vulnerable, but yes, they know how to win these knockout games. India will have to play their A-game in the final, which they have been playing since the last 10 matches. India are going to be very confident facing Australia in Ahmedabad,” Gambhir said.

Australia have secured eight consecutive wins after losing their opening two matches. The upcoming World Cup final will mark their record eighth appearance, having won five of the previous seven attempts, including three consecutive victories in 1999, 2003, and 2007.

Shreyas Iyer Is The Biggest Game Changer – Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir picked Shreyas Iyer as the most significant game-changer in the World Cup. Gambhir stated that Shreyas fought hard for his place after an injury and will play a crucial role for India in the final, especially against bowlers like Maxwell and Zampa.

“Shreyas Iyer is the biggest game changer for me in this World Cup. He was injured and had to fight for his place, and to score a century in 70 balls in the knockout is simply outstanding. He’ll be the key for India in the final when Maxwell and Zampa bowl,” Gambhir further said.

Shreyas Iyer has showcased remarkable form in the World Cup, achieving 50+ scores in his last four innings. He scored 526 runs at an impressive average of 75.14 and a strike rate of 113.11. India is set to face Australia in the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.
