Australian veteran Steve Smith remains in line to make a Test comeback for the second Test against the West Indies. This was reported after Smith marked his first full season after he dislocated his little finger during an engagement served in the slips.

Steve Smith spent a week at his New York apartment during the Barbados test, and only with his stitches removed did he rejoin the Australian test squad in their practice session for the second test.

He will still have to put on a splint for around the next six or more weeks; however, despite all of this, both Smith and coach Andrew McDonald have stressed that Smith is ready to bear the turmoil of a full test match.

Smith was seen batting against throwdowns from assistant coach Matthew Wade, which was followed by him moving to the central pitches where the batter likely faced the spin of Nathan Lyon and the two lanky pacers, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

"He seems pretty confident," Alex Carey had said before training began. "He's excited to get back in. It's been tough at the top of the order, so to add a little bit more experience is good for the group."

Steve Smith injured his little finger back during the WTC Final

Steve Smith, the exceptional right-handed batter from Australia, is often regarded as one of the greatest players from the modern generation in the longest format of the game. He is a veteran himself, having completed 10000 test runs in the last WTC itself.

However, in the WTC final, after a supporting inning in the first innings at Lord's, one of his favorite arenas in world cricket, Smith injured his little finger while fielding in the slips. It was a compound dislocation that ruled him out of the field for some time before he seemed to line up for his comeback.

Assuming Steve Smith does play, he will need the support from his fellow players, as Smith can't be fielding in the slip cordon. He won't be able to take his usual place in the cordon.

Steve Smith's record in the Caribbean in Tests

Steve Smith has a tremendous record both against the West Indies and in the Caribbean nation, as the West Indies seems to be one of his favorite oppositions. Playing in Australia against the West Indies, he has played 9 matches against the side, scoring 872 runs. He averages 124.57 against them with 3 hundreds and a highest score of 200*.

Playing in the West Indies islands, he has played 2 matches, and in four innings he has 283 runs with an average of 141.50 and the highest score of 199, which came back in 2015.

Australia dominated hosts West Indies at Barbados with Hazlewood's horror

The Australia vs West Indies test tour began with the first test at Barbados, where the Windies bowlers dominated the Aussie stars early on Day 1.

After bowling them out, the Australian quicks also gave a tough time to the West Indies top order, leaving them 4 wickets down at the end of Day 1.

The bowling onslaught continued as West Indies were bowled out for 190; however, Travis Head, Beau Webster, and Alex Carey marked their dominating 60s and took Australia to a decent 310.

In the final innings of play, they bowled the West Indies out for 141, as Josh Hazlewood bowled a fiery spell where he tore through the West Indies middle order.
