Australia will host India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting in November. The Test series starts with the first Test at Perth.

Cricket fans from both countries are awaiting the start of the series with baited breadth.

India have won their last two tours. They are also the current holders of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy having won the Test series 2-1 at home earlier this year. They also then defeated the Aussies in the T20 World to avenge their World Cup defeat.

Former Aussie fast bowler Geoff Lawson feels that it is very difficult to predict a winner in the upcoming series. He said though the two teams are evenly matched, he titled the favor towards the Aussies as they are playing at home.

India-Australia Are Evenly Matched Teams: Jeff Lawson

“The two teams are very evenly matched across all facets and India have the recent Down Under-winning experiences to mentally fall back on if they are under pressure,” he said to Mid-Day.

He further said that choosing an outright winner will be at their own risk however, he said that the Aussies are slight favourites to win the series.

“Picking a winner is fraught with all sorts of peril which is exactly how the fans want this series to unfold. I’m very uncertainly going for an Australian win 3-2" Lawson said.

He further said that the series will not end in a draw and termed the series as the best in the 21st century.

“With a hot dry Australian summer predicted, I can’t see there being any draws as these two teams have an attacking penchant and the players to deliver quick runs and batting collapses. This could be the best Test series of the 21st century so far and will remind us of how Test cricket is the premium form of the game,” Lawson concluded saying.

India and the Aussies have been playing Test cricket since 1947. However, the Border-Gavaskar series started in 1996-97. The Aussies well and truly dominated India till the 2015 series at home.

It is since the 2016-17 BGT series that India have had the upper hand against the Aussies. India as said above have won their last two Test series against the Aussies in Australia.

The last two series wins in the away country were good evidence of India's evolution as an overseas Test-playing nation.

The Aussies dominated India well and truly across the nineties and the first decade of 2000. However, in the last 10 years, both home and away India have been playing good cricket against the Aussies.

Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed India head coach will have a massive task on his hands when he lands in Australia for the Test series. He will have an important role in team selection as well. Winning the Test series is important for India to make it to the final of the WTC for the third time straight.

Currently, India are topping the points table followed by Australia. They have a chance to widen the gap between them and the Aussies by winning the home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
