Australia Test captain Pat Cummins said it will be fine in case any player is not willing to tour Pakistan in March this year.
Australia is scheduled to play three Tests, as many ODIs and a solitary T20I match in Pakistan in the March-April window this year.
Australian players unsure about Pakistan tour
The Australian team’s visit will end their 24 years of absence from playing in Pakistan as the last time the five-time World Cup winners toured the Asian nation was back in 1998.
Star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is likely to miss the Pakistan tour as he might plan to have his wedding with his fiancee Vini Raman in that same period.
Ahead of the final Ashes Test, left-arm pace bowler Mitchell Starc said he was unsure about his availability for the Pakistan tour.
Recently Starc’s bowling partner Josh Hazlewood also said that many players will talk to their families and then come up with a decision.
I think we’ll get close to a full-strength squad: Pat Cummins
However, Cummins seems confident of having a formidable Australian squad to face Pakistan in their backyard after 24 years. Cummins also mentioned that some players might want to get a bit more information regarding the tour.
“I think we’ll get close to a full-strength squad. There is still a little bit of work to do. We have received a lot of information and it has been great. All the pre-tour security and biosecurity work has been done and it’s been fantastic,” Cummins was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
“There are a couple of players still keen to get a bit more information but everyone is really pumped and feeling relatively comfortable. If anyone doesn’t make the tour it is absolutely okay, we will back them for sure,” he added.
Pakistan and Australia will kick off their multi-format tour with the first Test on March 3 at the National Stadium in Karachi.
