“A proud moment to wear the white jersey. Ready for the next set of challenges,” the left-arm quick captioned the tweeted image.

Natarajan first burst into the limelight with his performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2020 in UAE. He was especially brilliant in the death-overs and returned with 16 wickets at an economy rate of 8.02.

Because of a promising IPL campaign, Natarajan was picked in the touring Indian party to Australia as a net bowler initially. But an injury to finger-spinner Varun Chakravarthy saw him being included in the T20I squad and later the ODI team too as he replaced injured paceman Navdeep Saini.

Natarajan picked up two wickets on his ODI debut in Canberra and then ended as the leading wicket-taker in the T20I series with six scalps.

In the Test set-up as well, multiple injuries to first-choice pacemen Ishan Sharma, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav have put Natarajan on the verge of a Test debut in Sydney.

Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur are the other fast bowlers in contention for the third seamer’s role. Mohammed Siraj, who made his debut in the previous Test, will be sharing the new-ball with veteran pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the third Test in Sydney, beginning January 7.

In his first-class career, T Natarajan has played 20 games and taken 64 wickets at an average of 27.03. The record includes three five-wicket hauls.

Team India bounced back strongly in Melbourne and registered a memorable victory to level the Test series 1-1.

The Indian team last won a Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground on the 1977-78 trip to Australia. Stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane and his team will be looking to rewrite history books in the New Year’s Test.
