Annabel Sutherland Smashes Double Hundred In First Innings

Annabel Sutherland showcased her prowess with the bat, registering the fourth-highest individual score in women’s Test cricket. The 22-year-old scored a remarkable 210 runs off 256 deliveries. Sutherland received a well-deserved standing ovation from the crowd.

Kiran Baluch of Pakistan remains the record holder for the highest individual score in women’s Test cricket, with an impressive 242 runs against the West Indies in 2004. Mithali Raj and Ellyse Perry are the only other players to have scored higher than Sutherland’s total.

The right-handed batter scored 210 runs off 256 deliveries, with the help of two maximums and 27 boundaries. Australia declared their innings at 9-575 post-tea on day two, immediately after the dismissal of Alana King for 8 runs, with Kim Garth left unbeaten on 49.

Earlier in their first innings, South Africa managed only 76 runs in 31.2 overs. Sune Luus led the scoring with 26 runs off 45 balls, while Masbata Klass contributed 10 runs off 25 balls. Darcie Brown shone for Australia with a five-wicket haul, supported by Annabel Sutherland and Tahlia McGrath, who claimed three and two wickets, respectively.

Sat In The Showers For 15 Minutes – Australia Women’s Team Skipper Alyssa Healy

Australia women skipper Alyssa Healy expressed her disappointment after falling just one run short of a century on Day 1 of the match. Healy humorously shared that her husband, Mitchell Starc, also experienced a similar fate in Test cricket.

“I sat in the showers for 15 minutes after getting out. I don’t really play for personal milestones but we don’t play Test cricket that much. So it stings a little bit. Mitch said, ‘If there’s one thing in our cricket careers I can relate to, it’s getting out for 99’. What a unique sport we play. And what a unique relationship we have that we can have these weird moments. But at least we can share that one for the rest of our lives,” Alyssa Healy said.

Alyssa Healy scored 99 runs off 124 deliveries, hitting 16 boundaries in the process, before being dismissed. She became the fifth female cricketer to fall for 99 runs in a Test inning. Interestingly, Healy’s husband, Mitchell Starc, had also been dismissed for the same score in a Test match against India in 2013.
