In a jaw-dropping comparison, the legendary Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has placed Jasprit Bumrah in the league of Sir Donald Bradman—but from a bowler’s lens. Showering rich praise on the Indian speedster, Adam Gilchrist said that Jasprit Bumrah is fast becoming the bowling equivalent of the greatest batter, Sir Donald Bradman, in cricket history.
The former Australian legend Bradman is known for having an astonishing Test average of 99.94, and he has his own league of excellence in terms of batting. Well, Gilchrist believes that Bumrah is carving out a similar legacy with the ball, setting himself miles apart from his contemporaries across all formats.
Adam Gilchrist compares Jasprit Bumrah to Sir Donald Bradman
Adam Gilchrist was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “He's maybe the best fast bowler of all time. When you start stacking up the statistics and the varying conditions that he has to go out and execute those skills in, I guess you look at Sir Donald Bradman's numbers compared to his peers, and he's just so far ahead.
So, I think Bumrah is sort of in that category across all the different variations that you get in conditions and pitches that you've got to bowl on. He's significantly further ahead than the peers around him, so that tells you we are truly watching greatness.”
With searing pace, surgical precision, and an uncanny ability to adapt in any condition, Bumrah’s performances are becoming a benchmark for excellence. His recent exploits in the five-match Test series in Australia, where he was the leading wicket-taker with 32 scalps at a mind-boggling average of just 13, were yet another example of the Indian pacer’s unmatched skill.

Jasprit Bumrah is the best all-format bowler: Adam Gilchrist
Gilchrist, having watched the action unfold up close in the commentary box during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, described the experience as nothing short of awe-inspiring. He added, “We just sat and watched in awe at close range, commentating on that series, and again, I know it's a different format, but he is the best all-format bowler; that's nothing to argue there.”
However, Gilchrist admitted that Australia has never feared an Indian fast bowler the way they fear Jasprit Bumrah now. Reflecting on Bumrah’s fiery spells during the recent BGT 2024-25 series, the legendary cricketer has noted that no Indian seamer in the past has ever dominated or intimidated the Australian batters quite like Bumrah with his pace, accuracy, and control.
Gilchrist signed off by saying, “A seamer from India, consistently throughout, particularly the series that we just saw in the summer, back home in the Australian summer? No, I don't think so.”
Jasprit Bumrah is on fire for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025
Notably, Jasprit Bumrah may not be leading the Purple Cap race, but his impact in the ongoing IPL 2025 has been nothing short of game-changing. Despite missing the first four games due to a back injury, Bumrah has returned with fire.
In the seven matches he’s played, the Mumbai Indians star has bowled 69 balls with ruthless control, averaging nearly 10 dot balls per game—the best among all bowlers with an economy under 8. He has already taken 11 wickets from seven games so far this season.
Only Khaleel Ahmed and Josh Hazlewood have a better dot-ball percentage, but both have leaked over 8 runs per over, while Bumrah has the stunning economy rate of 6.96. Since his return, MI has surged to the top, winning six out of seven games in the ongoing IPL 2025.
