As long as Angkrish Raghuvanshi and captain Ajinkya Rahane were on the crease, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were in a commanding situation against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Eden Gardens.

Soon after their departure, the Purple brigade not only started to drop the hard-earned tempo, but some wickets as well. The wicket of Rinku Singh was a huge blow for the Knight Riders. In the ongoing IPL 2026 season, the middle-order batter, who played multiple match-winning knocks for the team in the past, was bowled out cleanly against the LSG pacer Avesh Khan.

The bell remained on the line of the stumps and took the bails off. There was barely any footwork from Singh, only a lazy swing of the bat. Rinku Singh departed for only 4 runs off 7 balls. Avesh Khan offered the batter a fiery send-off. KKR lost their fourth batter.

The wicket of Rinku Singh was a massive moment for the match. In the ongoing IPL campaign, the batter has yet to show his actual potential as a prominent batter.

Rahane and Raghuvanshi rescued KKR from early trouble

After the quick departure of Rinku Singh, the onus to take care of the run rate was on the two overseas batters- Cameron Green and Rovman Powell. In the previous matches, the Australian all-rounder, Cameron Green, proved a flop in the batting-only role, and for the Caribbean batter, Rovman Powell, it was his batting innings in the ongoing IPL season.

Both of the batters are capable of taking big shots and taking the run rate to the roof. After Green and Powell, there were Anukul Roy, Ramandeep Singh, and Sunil Narine on the line-up, who are also capable of playing big shots.

The first blow Kolkata Knight Riders sustained was the wicket of Finn Allen. The LSG pacer helped the team to get rid of the dangerous batter early in the innings. Near the boundary line, Digvesh Rathi grabbed the ball. But the catch looked a bit controversial as the fielder’s foot was very close to the boundary rope.

This was how Rahane and Raghuvanshi helped the team to unleash a counterattack vs LSG

One of the main highlights of KKR’s innings was the partnership of Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The pair of the experienced and emerging batter took the team from 15 for 1 to close to 100. Rahane lost his wicket for 41 runs off 24 balls, powered by four 4s and a couple of 6s.

When the captain dismissed, KKR was on 99 in 10.2 overs. Raghuvanshi lost his guards for 45 runs. The young Knight played the knock against 33 balls. His knock was decorated with five 4s and a couple of 6s. KKR finished with the score of 181/4 with Cameron Green and Rovman Powell stitching a 70-run partnership.
