Avishka Fernando Ruled Out Of The ODI Series Against England Due To Quadriceps Tear
Updated - 28 Jun 2021, 12:16 PM
Sri Lanka opening batsman Avishka Fernando will miss the remaining leg of the England tour. After a horror T20I series where Sri Lanka sustained a 3-0 whitewash, the tourists will square off in the ODI series, starting from the 29th of June at Chester-le-Street. But Avishka Fernando will not participate in the three-match rubber after sustaining an injury to his quadriceps.

The grade two injury to his quadriceps emerged while fielding in the second T20 international in Cardiff. As a result, Fernando did not feature in the third and final T20 international at the same venue. Avishka’s injury already arrives as a significant setback for him and Sri Lanka ahead of another litmus test.
It had been Avishka Fernando’s first tour with the national team since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. He could not feature in the limited-overs squads to the West Indies and Bangladesh tours after failing fitness tests. Hence, the 23-year old could have used the opportunity in England to make a case. Nevertheless, Avishka could not translate his promise in the shortest format, making scores of 0 and 6 in the first two T20Is. But the Wadduwa-born cricketer has a promising record in ODIs as he has 653 runs in 18 games at 36.27, with a strike rate of 96.59.
