Axar Patel Castles Matt Renshaw
PC: X

Axar Patel finally did the trick for India as he broke through the defense of Australian batter Matthew Renshaw and broke the building 3rd-wicket partnership between Matt Short and Renshaw.

India lost the first ODI and was desperate for a comeback in the second game to keep their hopes alive in the series. If they lose the ongoing, the final ODI in Sydney would have been a dead rubber. As the Indian batters stood up effectively on this occasion, the bowlers also kept it tight against the explosive Aussie top order.

Skipper Mitchell Marsh was the first wicket to fall in the Australia batting order, while Travis Head followed after being dismissed by Harshit Rana. Matt Short, the man who was handed multiple chances by the Indian fielders, took command of the Australian innings.

Axar Patel rattles Matt Renshaw's stumps, drawing the crucial breakthrough for India

Matt Renshaw, the debutant from the Perth ODI, arrived in Adelaide with some hope of getting some valuable runs, which can propel his team to a victory and earn him a permanent place in the XI. Renshaw was part of a half-century partnership alongside Matt Short.

Having scored a run-a-ball 30, Renshaw looked good in this outing; however, only till Axar Patel was introduced into the attack. Patel lowered his pace and bowled a looped delivery on the off-stump line; Renshaw skipped out to shuffle it over leg, but the ball slid past his outside edge to rattle the middle and leg stumps.

Harshit Rana dismissed Matt Short after a dramatic 74

Harshit Rana has faced immense criticism for being a constant in the Indian team without having done anything worth the selection, according to cricket critics. However, backed by the head coach Gambhir, he has arrived in Australia and played two games for the Aussies.

Matt Short played a crucial half-century just when the Australians needed him to, as both the openers were back into the hut without scoring as many runs as needed to give the initial momentum to the Australian innings. However, the batter was dropped on multiple occasions, first by Axar Patel and then by Mohammed Siraj, at almost the same position.

Having scored 74 runs for Australia at a remarkable strike rate, Short was finally dismissed off Harshit Rana's bowling as he was caught by Mohammed Siraj in an attempt to clear the mid-wicket fence.

Mitchell Owen goes 'BANG! BANG! BANG !' to command Australia to a win

The new white-ball Australian all-rounder Mitchell Owen has been a promising performer for the World Champions. He turned up in place of Marcus Stoinis, handing Australia a powerful and brute batting all-rounder down the order.

As Owen set in to bat for Australia with 5 wickets down and Cooper Connolly having not played many deliveries, Owen took the responsibility on his shoulders to clear the fence regularly. He has been very high on energy, and Owen came in with his big heaves to lead Australia towards victory with the ball.

Owen's partnership alongside Connolly came in no time, before being dismissed off 36 from 23 balls. He fell to Washington Sundar as he attempted to launch him over the long-on fielder and was caught well inside the fence.
