Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Ayush Badoni is reportedly set to lead the Delhi state team in the upcoming Indian domestic 2025-26 season. Lokesh Sharma from Dainik Jagran shared the update on Badoni leading the team ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, which is set to begin on October 15.

A scheduled selection committee meeting to finalize probables for the Under-23 and Ranji Trophy teams was postponed on Tuesday. The delay came after DDCA secretary and convenor Ashok Sharma raised objections to the attendance of three directors.

In a letter to DDCA president Rohan Jaitley, Sharma emphasized the need for selection meetings to uphold transparency, fairness, and the integrity of the process.

Ayush Badoni Appointed Captain of Delhi for Upcoming Indian Domestic Season

Ayush Badoni has been appointed to captain Delhi for the upcoming Indian domestic season, according to Lokesh Sharma of Dainik Jagran. Badoni has leadership experience, having previously led the Delhi Ranji Trophy team and the South Delhi Superstarz in the Delhi Premier League (DPL).

Ayush Badoni was named Delhi’s Ranji captain in November 2024, taking over mid-season from Himmat Singh, who was struggling with form. In his first match as skipper, Badoni scored an unbeaten 205 against Jharkhand, securing a crucial first-innings lead for Delhi.

Ayush Badoni emerged as both Delhi’s leading run-scorer and highest wicket-taker during the tournament. He also captained Virat Kohli during Kohli’s one-off return to the Delhi side in January 2025.

Delhi Failed to Advance to Quarterfinals in Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Season

Delhi have won the Ranji Trophy title seven times and finished as runners-up on eight occasions. Their last triumph came in 2007-08 under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy.

The Delhi team began the 2024-25 season strongly. Captain Ayush Badoni scored a career-best 205 not out against Jharkhand in a drawn match. They secured an innings-and-19-run victory over Railways in their final group-stage match but still failed to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Virat Kohli returned to the competition for Delhi’s last group match but managed only six runs. Despite earning 21 points, Delhi could not advance to the knockout stage, as other teams in their group accumulated more points.

Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Season Set to Begin on October 15

The Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season is set to begin on October 15, with 32 teams competing in India’s premier domestic Test competition. Matches will be held across multiple venues nationwide, though the BCCI has yet to officially confirm all locations.

The tournament will run alongside other domestic events, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. The first phase of matches kicks off on October 15, while the second phase will start on January 22.

The 32 teams are divided into four Elite groups of eight teams each. Notably, the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The knockout stage, including the semifinals and final, will be played over five days, giving teams ample opportunity to showcase their skills.
