Young opening batter Ayush Mhatre scored his maiden T20 century to guide Mumbai to victory against Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 match. Mhatre broke Rohit Sharma's world record to become the youngest player to score a century across all three formats of cricket, according to ESPNcricinfo.
The 18-year-old batter produced a stunning match-winning effort in Mumbai’s chase of 193 against Vidarbha at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Friday. Mhatre scored an unbeaten 110 from 53 balls, including eight boundaries and as many sixes, guiding the team to a seven-wicket win with 13 balls remaining.
Ayush Mhatre Breaks Rohit Sharma’s Record With Stunning SMAT Century
Following his knock, Ayush Mhatre also joined a small group of players who have reached three-format centuries at a young age. At just 18 years and 135 days old, he became the youngest player to score centuries in all three formats of domestic cricket (First-Class, List A, and T20).
Before Mhatre, Rohit Sharma had completed centuries in all formats by the age of 19 years and 339 days. Rohit hit India’s first T20 hundred for Mumbai in 2007. Unmukt Chand, Quinton de Kock, and Ahmed Shehzad also achieved this milestone around the age of 20.
In international cricket, Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett is the youngest player to score centuries in all formats (Test, ODI, and T20I). Bennett achieved this at 21 during the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier in September 2025.
Ayush Mhatre Set to Lead India in U-19 Asia Cup 2025
Ayush Mhatre made his T20 debut for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025. He impressed the franchise enough for them to retain him ahead of the 2026 auction. The young batter is also set to captain India in the U-19 Asia Cup in December and the U-19 World Cup in January 2026.
In January 2025, Mhatre became the youngest player to score a List A century, smashing 181 against Nagaland at just 17 years and 168 days. He now has two centuries each in First-Class and List A cricket.
For CSK last season, he scored 240 runs in seven innings at a strike rate close to 189, including a half-century. His ability to provide explosive starts convinced the franchise to retain him, with hopes that he will develop into a key member of their long-term core.
Ayush Mhatre’s Blazing 110 Powers Mumbai to Dominant Seven-Wicket Win
Ayush Mhatre scored an unbeaten 110 from 53 balls to carry his team to a seven-wicket victory. His explosive knock came after Mumbai were in early trouble at 21 for 2 following the quick dismissals of Ajinkya Rahane and Hardik Tamore.
Mhatre first rebuilt the innings with Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 35 in an 88-run stand. After Suryakumar’s dismissal, Shivam Dube joined Mhatre and added an unbeaten 39, helping Mumbai accelerate and finish the chase with 13 balls to spare at 194 for 3.
Earlier, Vidarbha had set a competitive total of 192 for 9, thanks to half-centuries from Atharva Taide and Aman Mokhade, who added a 115-run opening stand. However, tight spells from Shivam Dube and Sairaj Patil, who took three wickets each, ensured Mumbai remained within reach of the target.
