Amazing and stunning opener! Perhaps these two words describe Ahmed Shahzad's short career in Pakistan cricket. He is a former Pakistan player who played for the side from 2009 to 2019. He is very vocal about his views on the Pakistan team and also criticized their poor show in the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Ahmed Shahzad is a right-handed batsman who used to bat as an opener for Pakistan. He was known for his hard-hitting batting style, however, he could only play for 10 years. A is 32 years old at present and has not retired from international cricket.
Family and Personal Life
Ahmad Shahzad was born on November 23, 1991, in Lahore city in Pakistan. He grew up in the city with his brother Khurram Shahzad and his hobbies in childhood included watching football and movies. In 2015, he married his childhood friend Sana and they have two children- a boy and a girl who were born in 2017 and 2021 respectively.
Early and Domestic Career
Ahmed Shahzad got a big break in the Pakistan domestic circuit after getting fixed by Habib Bank Limited in 2007. He still plays for the same team. Just after 2 years in his domestic circuit, he made his International debut for Pakistan.
International Career
Ahmed Shahzad made his debut in an ODI against Australia in 2009 and went to play till 2019 when he faced Sri Lanka in his last T20 international match. Over 10 years, the opening batsman played 13 Tests, 18 ODIs and 59 T20Is. He slammed 982 runs at 40 + average in Tests including three tons and four half-centuries.
In 81 ODIs, he slammed 2600 + runs at an average of 32 + and also slammed 6 centuries and 14 half-centuries. In T20Is, he was part of 59 games smacking 1400 + runs at 25 + average with a century and 7 half centuries. He also bowled in a few innings, however, he was just an occasional leg spinner.
Franchise Career
Ahmed Shahzad was quite active in the franchise T20 league. He has played in the Caribbean Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League, and Pakistan Super League. He represented teams like Jamaica Tallawahs, Comilla Victorians, Quetta Gladiators, Barbados Tridents, Multan Sultans, Rangpur Rangers, and Dhaka Platoon.
